Extraterrestrial is defined as: originating, existing, or occurring outside the earth or its atmosphere.
With that definition, Christ himself would be considered an extraterrestrial. In fact many verse in the Bible state this itself.
“If you are hated by the world, keep in mind that I was hated by the world before you. 15:19 If you were of the world, you would be loved by the world: but because you are not of the world, but I have taken you out of the world, you are hated by the world.”
John 15:18-19 BBE
“I have given your word to them; and they are hated by the world, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. 17:15 My prayer is not that you will take them out of the world, but that you will keep them from the Evil One. 17:16 They are not of the world any more than I am of the world. 17:17 Make them holy by the true word: your word is the true word. 17:18 Even as you have sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world. 17:19 And for them I make myself holy, so that they may be made truly holy.”
John 17:14-19 BBE
The Christian view on extraterrestrial life is the fact that their savior and they themselves are not natives of this earth. They are in the world, but not of it.

This subject is an interesting one since most would lump UFO’s in the same category as the Loch Ness monster or Bigfoot and rightly so. The amount of evidence, frauds, shaky footage, inconsistent stories, etc, are all in about the same league as the next. Now the question suggests that believing in UFO’s should be ridiculous for someone who is an atheist, since most atheists are skeptics and since they do not believe in a god, then why should they believe in UFO’s. However, I cannot honestly say that these two beliefs are in the same category as one another.
The belief in God(s) is purely and simply based in faith, no matter what religion you come from. Faith is defined simply as belief in something without evidence or proof. Lets face it, we are not born believing in a God, those beliefs are instilled into us through religion. People just didn’t suddenly start believing in UFO’s either, however, unlike religious belief, people started believing because they believe they had tangible evidence. We have all heard the stories from eye witnesses and whether they are telling the truth, or they simply think they are, a UFO is something that can at least be falsified, so I do not believe that belief in God(s) and belief in UFO’s are technically in the same category. Many pictures and videos have surfaced over the years and proven to be frauds. Now I cannot lie and say that I personally have researched all the pictures, stories and evidence out there, but from what I know, there is not one story that can be proven to definitively be extraterrestrial UFO’s.
Now though personally I do not believe that there is one legitimate extraterrestrial UFO story out there, that does not mean that there aren’t other people who do have legitimate reasons for believing. Who’s to really say if an eyewitness really did witness something real. I guess you could say that although I am an atheist when it comes to God(s), I am an agnostic when it comes to UFO’s, but for a good reason. The reason is not because I buy any of the stories of UFO’s, but simply because the prospect of intelligent life out in the universe is actually possible. Although this is in the realm of science fiction, it is at least possible considering that we are here and the thousands of planets in the known universe, that there is at least one other planet like ours that supports life and has life on it that our technology cannot reach yet.
For this reason, I do not think that belief in UFO’s is totally irrational or illogical. I do think that conspiracy theorists, such as those who believe in Area 51 and a big government cover up do fall into the same category as god belief. I would actually lump these same people in with “Truthers” who believe the government was responsible for 9/11. These people seem to have a disconnect with reality and live with the same faith that the religious do. These people claim to have “evidence”, but when faced with the facts, the only thing they really have is an overdeveloped imagination and warped sense of reality. These people tend to compartmentalize their beliefs. If a person is an atheist and a “truther”, then that would be a hypocrisy to me personally. The same applies to those that believe in Bigfoot and Nessie and are atheists. It means that they have compartmentalized their mind to not accept one fantastic claim in one area, but accept one in another area, with the same amount of evidence to support bothfaith.

It would be extremely presumptuous to think that in the entire universe the only planet that had accidentally enabled the development of life was our own. Therefore, the question of whether extraterrestrial life exists is a religious one until incontrovertible evidence demonstrates that it does.
The majority of religions are, quite naturally, extremely anthropomorphic. They have evolved or been inspired in peoples that perceive themselves as superior to all other lifeforms and often peoples on the planet. In the technological world we now inhabit, new religions do not occur; sects and cults develop from historic beliefs around particularly charismatic leaders without offering truly new revelations. During the times that initially created religions, humanity had a very limited knowledge of how even the earth worked, let alone the heavens. Natural phenomena were attributed to the acts of gods, pantheons of which abounded in every human culture across the planet.
Possibly life can spread across interstellar distances through bacterial spores, immune to the freezing temperatures until they reach habitable conditions. This may be so, but it will be some time before we can determine it considering our limited off-planet investigations.
Probably the most significant argument offered by those disputing the possibility of extraterrestrial life is that of “If they exist, where are they?” Although this really does not question extraterrestrial life, but the existence of INTELLIGENT extraterrestrial life. If there are other intelligences populating our galaxy, why have they not visited us in an indisputable manner? If Einsteinian space cannot be traversed at greater than the speed of light, should we not have at least detected communication signals from extraterrestrial civilizations in older parts of the galaxy, if they exist.
Unfortunately, all of our searching presumes that other intelligent species would wish to contact us. Or would at least not make any effort to hide their existence from us. Perhaps we should look at our history, examine how we have treated others of our own species based on the slightest of morphological differences and then consider again whether an intelligent extraterrestrial species would have the slightest desire to make our acquaintance.
Perhaps civilizations that have the technological capability to span stellar distances would have no problem excluding their past communications from entering the solar system. Perhaps we are legitimately excluded from the congress of sapient species. Perhaps the reason we only have unsubstantiated and unreliable reports of alien contacts are because the only aliens that are noticed visiting our planet are the equivalent of alien teenage joy riders and pranksters.
