Bizarre UFO sightings

By admin On July 26th, 2009

There have been a number of bizarre UFO sightings over the years. All over the world people have witnessed the sightings of unidentified flying objects.

In the year 1947, Kenneth Arnold reportedly sighted nine unusual objects flying near Mount Rainier, Washington. He was on the lookout for a missing military aircraft when he spotted the shiny objects flying at high speeds. He said that the objects were flying in an erratic fashion. This incident was widely publicized, and is believed to be responsible for the onslaught of future reported incidents. In the same year the Roswell UFO incident occurred. There was a crash that happened near Roswell, New Mexico, that was believed to be that of a UFO. This is probably the most well known of all the UFO incidents through the years.

Another bizarre UFO sighting was said to have taken place in Bonsall, Derbyshire, in the UK. A woman named Sharon Rowlands saw a large, luminous object, with a shimmering pink color, hovering above a field in the sky. She took a video of the object that she believed to be a UFO. Her story was reported in some local newspapers.

There were numerous UFO sightings that happened in the year 1977, on the Brazilian island of Colares. The UFOs were said to have attacked witnesses to the sightings, leaving the victims with burn marks and puncture wounds.

In the year 1976 a bizarre UFO sighting was reported in the Canary Islands. It was particularly unusual as the UFO was reportedly seen for 40 plus minutes in various locations. A few hundred people saw the UFO, both military personnel and civilians. Witnesses described the object as being sphere shaped and translucent.

An Argentinian truck driver was on his way to make a delivery at Rio Gallegos, Argentina when he had to stop to change his truck tire. As he pulled over Dionisio Llanca said that the road was immediately illuminated by a strange yellow light. As he was changing the tire the light turned a blue color. He tried to stand up, but it was as if time had stood still, and he was frozen to the spot. He is then said to have seen a huge object in the shape of a plate, and three people were standing behind him. The strange looking people placed some kind of device on to his finger, he saw blood, and believes he passed out. On awakening he discovered that he was 9 kilometers away from where the incident happened.

A strange light, believed to be a UFO was seen by hundreds of people in Norway, in 2006. The bright green orb was described as being much bigger than an aircraft, and traveling at great speed. The object was later explained to be a bolide, which is a missile type object.

One of the more recent reports of a UFO was sighted near Stephenville, Texas. Reports from witnesses say that they saw flashing lights going at speeds of 2000 to 3000 miles per hour. The strobes are said to have changed patterns and configurations. The craft was reported to have flames coming from it. Investigations are still ongoing about what the object could have been.

Extraterrestrial life: Fact or fiction – Part 14

looking for extraterrestrial life

This is a difficult question to answer with any degree of certainty. Given the immense size of the cosmos, it’s hard to believe there are no other planets without similar environmental conditions as Earth. However, there’s no way to guess what aliens beings might look like. Perhaps they are not humanoid at all, or even carbon based as we are. In fact, if we ever did make contact with aliens, how could we be sure communication would be possible?

Speaking of first contact, it’s worthwhile to mention Travis Walton, an Arizona logger who disappeared for five days in 1975. He claimed to have been taken by aliens, and his companions who witnessed a large UFO in the sky just prior to his abduction all swore that what they saw was real and not a hallucination. The residents of Snowflake, Walton’s hometown, thought he was the victim of an old fashioned murder. He reappeared and his story is one of the most famous in UFO abduction history.

Two other people who allegedly made contact with aliens were Betty and Barney Hill, who spotted a UFO in the sky over New Hampshire in 1961. Their experience was quite different from Travis Walton. Instead of being held on an alien craft for several days, the Hills claimed to have been shown a map of the star system where the aliens came from, the Zeta Reticuli system, which is 40 light years away from Earth. They were examined by a psychiatrist who concluded that they were not being deceitful about the details of their abduction.

I can’t give a definitive opinion on whether these stories are true or not, but they are compelling. I’ve heard the belief that aliens have been watching us for a long time but have not decided to contact us. To them we would certainly appear destructive, and I hate to say it, an inferior form of life.

We are just beginning to explore our solar system. We’ve sent the Voyager probes and have scanned the surface of Mars but we haven’t physically left our little corner of the galaxy because we are still a long way from producing the technology required. In a galactic sense, we are infants. Now, imagine you are a member of an alien race who has developed the means to travel faster than light. How would you look at humans, with all the wars and environmental destruction that’s taking place?

SETI (The Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) continues to send out radio transmissions to the stars, and we are still waiting for a response. Is anybody out there listening?

Perhaps, but it might be a very long time before we hear anything.

Famous UFO abduction stories

By admin On July 26th, 2009

UFO abduction stories have now so familiar to people, they have become a part of our modern mythology. So much so, that in 1979’s “Monty Python’s Life Of Brian”, Brian (who lived during the time of Christ) was abducted for about two minutes by a UFO and everybody in the audience got the joke, whether they spoke English or not. But many claim there have been real UFO abductions that are not so funny.

It is thought that one of the earliest UFO abduction story is that of the story of Elisha in the Old Testament. In this myth, Elisha is spared the pain of dying by being caught up the air and taken to heaven in a fiery chariot. Unlike other abduction stories, Elisha does not come back.

One of the earliest abduction stories not presented as myth but as fact in the press was in 1897. The term UFO had not been coined yet, so UFOs were called “Mystery Airships” by the press. The first Mystery Airship story was in 1896. By 1897, a Colonel HG Shaw claimed to have been accosted by three tall humanoids with fine hair all over their slender bodies. Unlike other abduction stories, Shaw refused to go on the ship, fought and was released.

The most pivotal abduction story is that of Betty and Barney Hill (1961). The year of their amazing abduction is the year one to some ufologists. As modern time is divided by the life of Christ into BC and AD, so time by ufologists is sometimes referred to as BBB and ABB (Before Betty and Barney Hill and After Betty and Barney Hill). This broke into international news and set the pattern for almost all other UFO abduction stories to come.

The interracial couple was driving home to Portsmouth on the night of September 19-20, saw bright lights and suddenly woke up two hours later still driving their car. They then began behaving oddly, such as having unexplainable phobias and recurring nightmares. They went to psychologists for help, and were put under hypnosis. This is when their tale was revealed.

They were captured, taken to the ship, given painful anatomical examinations (including a very gruesome needle inserted into Betty’s navel) and then were released back to Earth, but with their memories wiped. They also did damage to Betty’s dress and Barney’s binoculars.

They were only abducted the one time, but one was more than enough for the couple to get international fame through a Boston Traveler story in 1965. Did they ever travel? No one knows. But they certainly believed they did, and many today believe their story, which has outlived them. Becuase they came forward, a lot more people felt it was safe to share their puzzling experiences, too. Being able to tell their stories in a safe enviornment certainly can be therapuetic for the storytellers and for the listeners.
