Christian views on extraterrestrial life – Part 3

I’ve been reading a lot of scholarly debates that focus on other life in the universe affecting the Christian religion. Many people, including some on this site have said that if other life appears to us, it would make many people lose confidence in God because He never mentioned them in the Bible.

This entire debate hinges on the ‘fact’ that other life even exists. Arguments in favor of this usually involve probabilities and the universe’s size. For instance, it’s frequently said that the universe is too big to be only for humanity. I say, look at the Bible again. The Bible says we were made in the “image of God” and created to be stewards of His creations, mainly the Earth.

God created this world for people to live on and glorify Him with their existence. The love that many of us have for Him is returned a hundredfold. Now, do I still think a God who loves me THAT much is willing to create an entire universe of stars and other celestial wonders, just so we as humans can have extra light at night? I think that I have have no idea what God thinks, but I do believe He loves his creation, humanity, enough to make the entire universe just for us. He did send His Son to die for us, after all…

I doubt there’s anything He wouldn’t do for us. Therefore, I think that extraterrestrial life is not a given just because we cannot believe in a loving God who created everything for us.
